fellow readers,
I am not a member of any political party.
All this mud slinging ( by every Tom, Dick and Harry), on the woman married to an Indian
(Previous Prime Minister) and mother of two children from the marriage.
If she has the right to vote and has been accepted as a leader of CONGRESS (Opposition
Party) by BJP and every one else. If she can sit in the country's Parliament as an elected
member, what is this FUSS OVER NOTHING?
Sometimes Sangma does not accept her. Sometime Pawar breaks away. Sometimes Badal gives
his opinion as her fortune writer. Every time it suits them, all BJP leaders brand her as
non-acceptable to them as a non-Indian, because they consider her a danger signal for
their political existence
This country has a valid constitution, a working legal system.
We have LEGAL SHASTRIs like B.S.Dhillon Advocate, Journalists of repute like Kuldip
Nayyar and Harbir Singh Bhanwar, Stalwarts like Harkishan Singh Surjit, quite a number of
professors of Political science and authoritative columnists such as Dr. Swaraj Singh and
Dr. Amarjit Singh as our CO-readers.
Why not hear about this from the HORSE's MOUTH?
May I request all you gentlemen, to clear the air by referring to the Indian
constitution and let the whole world know, the TRUTH, by giving the LAW No. and CLAUSE No.
pertaining to the status of such men and women who attain citizenship by marrying an
Indian, and acquire legal citizenship?
And why is it not considered illegal and contempt of the country's constitution, to keep
shooting allegations, that are not true?

| 03/04/04 I am
not surprised to see various plotical parties trying to use Mr. Tohra's death to
sharpen their image but I am shocked on Mr. Parkash Singh Badals request for 'Panth
Rattan' for Mr. Tohra. I don't like to speak ill aobut the dead but I can not live
without saying this either, that Mr. Tohra was a political person who only used the
wealth and moment to grab plotical oppurtunities just like any other politician.
The true 'Panth Rattan's' are those who laid their lives to protect Shri Darbar Sahib,
not those who sold the Sikh panth for personal gains. I am sure we are all aware of
the history and the very famous saying in Punjab, "Punjab vich thin phakhandi, Badal,
Tohra te Talwandi".

| 02/03/04 I read
with interest about Kaar Sewa at the Darbaar Sahib Jee. This place is the holiest of the
holiest. For the Sikhs in particular and Punjabees in general our Sarover should be purest
of the pure. I am glad that we also realise that the stagnant water can become unhygienic
very quickly and can be the breeding place for skin diseases. In my view, the Sikh Dharam
is the most scientific and Marxist religion in the world. That is one reason that I feel
very passionately that it should become the RAAH DASERA for the whole universe. For this
end we got to be strong to oppose those forces who with their vocal strength try to
undermine this religion. Although they may think otherwise.
I had a very busy phone-in programme on Akaash Radio on the subject of cleanliness
around the Darbaar Sahib Jee. The majority of callers expressed their dismay that the
SGPC, despite the fact that they have thousands and Lakhs of rupees in their coffers do
not try to take the issue of eradicating the GAND MAND around our holy place seriously. I
invite readers to express their views on this issue then write to the SGPC and ask them to
pay their full attention towards this end. The cleanliness around the Darbaar Sahib Jee
must be addressed as soon as possible.

Thanks to Sandip Singh Chahals report about Californias
Punjabi Sahit Sabha that we have the pleasure of knowing about some friends who are active
in organising literary activities in California. I visited California couple of times.
There is a lot to write about various issues there. Please keep it up.
When we came to Britain in the sixties, there were a lot of literary activities. But
then, as always, some Gharram Chaudhries started taking interest in promoting their own
non-literary ambitions by infiltrating in the writers organisations. At the same
time, some writers started to quarrel among themselves about some petty issues. As a
consequence, there is no significant literary Sargarmi in the UK now. So, please beware of
these pitfalls. At present there is a very big majority of active Punjabi writers abroad.
We should make a united front to promote Punjabi literature and language. Dont let
Punjabi literature and language be limited to the religious environment only.
Most worrying situation, at least in the UK, is that we have been unable to produce any
Punjabi writer who is born and brought up in this country despite being in the third
generation of immigrants. All the Punjabi writers are born in India. The youngsters are
mostly unable to grasp their thoughts. In this country, there is also a problem of
providing good school books in Punjabi. The books allocated for the syllabus are mostly of
writers who are either living in India or are born in India. The students, most of the
time, are not familiar with the subject written by the authors. My own book Samundron Paar
was in the A level syllabus for a few years. Although the contents were directly related
to the life in the UK yet it was not easy to make the young Punjabees to understand the
depth and idiom of the prose.
If I may say so, the Punjabi writers living in Canada and USA are relatively quite new
from India. After reading some works, I have come to the conclusion that some times it is
only the geographical detail which is different otherwise most of the literature could
have been written in Ludhiana or Amritsar. Most of the items are written out of nostalgia.
As we all know most of the people from Indian subcontinent are ready to do anything to
come to the West, even by illegal means. This is self inflicted exile. That is why talking
about nostalgia in literature sounds so hollow and artificial. Besides, the travelling
facilities are so easy now that it takes only a few hours and few hundred dollars to get
you to your dear ones in Punjab. Let us be realistic in our approach.
Lastly, I apologise for writing this letter in English. I am trying to be familiar with
Gurmukhi font.

create awareness about turbans.Turban has become the identity of sikhs now. After 11

| 25/03/04 Sacramento Valley's Largest South Asian Population
to celebrate tenth Punjabi American Festival on May 30, 2004
Yuba City, CA, May 30, 2004
The Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds will host more than 10,000 people Sunday, May 30th during
the 10th Annual Punjabi American Festival. Sponsored by the Punjabi American Heritage
Society of Yuba City, the festival is a way for those with Punjabi roots to celebrate and
share their culture.
Date: Sunday, May 30th
Time: 11:00 am to 8 pm
Location: Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds, Yuba City
Punjabi Americans have their roots in the Punjab region between India and Pakistan.
Punjabis were the first group of people from South Asia to start migrating to the United
States more than a century ago. Between 1903-1908, Punjabis primarily worked on the
Western Pacific Railways in Northern California. And two thousand Punjabis worked on a
700-mile road between Oakland and Salt Lake City, which today is modern interstate 80.
The growing network of railroad lines brought increased agricultural activity to large
areas of the Sacramento Valley. Because of their agricultural experience from the Punjab
Indus Valley, which historians acknowledge was one of the first civilizations to invent
agriculture, Punjabis started moving into farming jobs. Today Punjabis play a vital role
in the economy of the entire Central and Sacramento Valley's, and make up a majority of
the South Asian population.
The Punjabi American Heritage Society was founded in 1993 with the purpose of creating
a better understanding amongst different people living in this area and to educate
children about their ancestral roots. In the past ten years, many events have been
organized to improve awareness and to educate fellow Americans.
At this year's festival, hundreds of local performing artists, including students from
California schools, colleges and universities, will perform traditional Punjabi dances
such as Bhangra, Giddha, Jhumar, Malwai Giddha and other south Asian dances. Traditional
and modern styles of dance will also be presented. There will also be guest performances
by Hispanic and performers from other cultures (are welcome). In addition, vendors will be
on hand providing many Punjabi and South Asian delicacies.
This year's festival will also highlight performances by internationally acclaimed
artists, Jazzy Bains and Sukhshinder Shinda. Amitoz Mann, Bollywood movie director, will
honored for his work on the latest movie: Hawayian.
This year's festival will also feature: a painting exhibition by Manu Saluja of New
York; and many educational documentaries in English will be shared with mainstream
audience.

Prof.Darbari Lal has rightly siad India and Pakistan should burn wall
of hate and live like good neigbours. Instead of spending huge budget on arms they should
spend money on health ,education, sanitation , providing shelter to homeless, drinking
water to all. They should expand thier trade.Visa center should be opend in Amritsar and
Lahore so that people can meet with each other freely. Exchane of cultural troops,
educationists, sportsmen .traders doctotrs and other professionals should be increased.

| 24/03/04 Respected
Veer Ji,
Sat Sri Akal Ji
Recently we felt that there is need to promote our turban at an international platform
as a religious and cultural symbol. We feel that there should be at least one day in a
year when we all (Non Turban wearing) should wear turban as a Sikh. This will promote our
existence in the world. Please refer to our website www.sikhturbanday.com
We want to make it clear that we are asking to wear a turban to those Sikhs, who don't
wear turban regularly and dont stand out in community with Sikh identity. Even if
they all do it for one day (at least), still quantity wise its going to create a big
influential image of our community in other communities. Like as any good thing, it has to
start somewhere, somehow, so this is an effort to bring our community together and flash
our common values among our neighbors.
In order to launch this project we formed a non profit society, Sikh Turban Day
Society we appeal all the Sikhs (Specially non-turban wearing) around the world to
wear turban on April 13th one day before Vaisakhi day.
As you are already serving our community with great knowledge using latest technology.
Your website have great information about Sikhism. We know that our people have great
respect for you and we think that you will help us to make it very successful, if you
accept our request and help us to promote, deliver this idea to every Sikh. Please add our
banner to your website and read our flyer to your viasakhi radio.
We will be looking forward about your opinion and if possible an endorsement form your
society.
May Waheguru bless the whole world!
Best Regards

This is really a good move to stop getting sugar from other states if
the government don't allow us to sell our sugar. This is center govt discrimination with
Punjab. This way farmers money can be given back to them and we really appreciate this.
GOD bless for your right moves for Punjab and Punjabis. This way we can save our Punjab
economically. |

| 19/03/04 I am
grateful to Mr Gurtej Singh of New Zeeland who corrected me on the budget figures of both
the Govt of Punjab and the SGPC. But the fact still remains that this huge budget of the
SGPC is spent on the right and appropriate needs of the Punjabees. Please again refer to
my previous letter.

Ludhanvi Ji is a progressive writer, very articulate, impressive , I am very influenced by
his writings. I hope This time SGP will spend money wisely, as G.Elections coming nearer I
am afraid like last Elections Congress & Akali Dal spent a lot of Money on
Sharab Di Chabeel; drink as much you can, One of my friend son attended both :sharab
Di Chabeel + Free music Ghar DEE Sharab Howe, from 12 PM to 2 AM, 6 AM in the
Morning found him dead.
All the religion in their scriptures provide things in heaven, which are being missed
here ; beautiful palaces, cool no dust (Air condions place) no starvation., to these poor
people our priest are giving the hope of marble palaces in heaven. You can see the simple
strategy. They are giving them dreams. And all poor societies have lived out of those
dream, hoping, hoping , hoping- and then death comes (Yamraj ji in Hindu Mytholigy,
doesnt exist in this existence). AND NOBODY KNOWS WHAT HAPPENS AFTER DEATH; NOBODY
COMES BACK, SO THE OTHERS CONTINUE TO HOPE..Very long time ago I heard a parcharak
(priest) in Guruduara, He was saying if you donate £10.00 now (Daan) in next life you
will get 10 times more ( What a good investment?)
Neither the religious leader nor the politician is interested in the people (Guru Ki
Sangat ) . Politicians promise people in Mandir and Guruduaras for this world (Roads
,water, food & emoloyment) . Religious Pandit Mullah And Granthis promise people
things of other world. But do you see any difference in what they are doing? Both are
promising so that people go on following them.It is not religion , it is psychological
compensation. It is selling dreams to hungry people, just trying to convince
them.Dont be worried;
There is Hindu Mandir in South Triputi, daily income 1 to 2 crores + gold , no body
knows where the trustee spend them , few months ago one shardhaloo donate 40 laks in cash.
Trustee of this Mandir always help Political leader in power, Naidu just last week during
elections compaigns visited this Mandir. This mandir donate them money. Trustee dont
donate to starving farmers or M& L leaders (Maoist) who leads their struggle against
Landlord oppression and poverty.
The religious leaders and the political leader both are in the same boat ,
helping each other. The politician protects the religious leader. He protects him through
peoples religious feelings , and the politician protects the religious leader by his
power. It is mutual understanding. They both are cunning and through cunningness they are
exploting peoples.
Sathi Ji , Need to raise consciousness, only a conscious man tries to change according
to the changing situations, conditions, geographies. We should live consciously , not
according to scriptures fixed rules.
Jai Hind.
